History in the Making
On our way home from the Hearts At Home conference in March, we stopped by Abraham Lincoln’s Presidential Museum in Springfield, IL. It was remarkable to grasp a little better understanding of how this man’s life changed history. We had an inside look at how history was forever affected, not only by his life, but also by his steadfast leadership and influence. What an incredible man!
When we think of someone who makes history, we usually think of someone famous, someone who did something significant that shaped the past and indirectly influenced the future of a large group of people. Those who made history were important. That’s why they are remembered in history books.
According to Dictionary.com, history is defined as “acts, ideas, or events that will or can shape the course of the future.”
Sharon shared with me that Brittlea, her 13 year-old daughter, just finished a scrapbook of her life and family for her Texas History class at school. She was reminded how quickly 13 years go by. Everyday we’re making history whether we realize it or not. We may not be known by many, or making textbook history; however, to the people who mean the most in our lives, and with the people who matter most, we’re writing our own history books.
Moms, to your children, you are shaping the course of their future. You are making history! You are impacting the lives of those in your home in ways that they will remember forever.
As moms, we will always wonder if we are having a positive impact, if we are disciplining them the right way, and if we are teaching them all they need to know. We question if they will ever know how much we really love them.
A sweet friend of mine recently lost her mother. The impact her mom had on her life is immeasurable. To hear my friend talk about her mom makes me wish I could have known her. “I never realized the wisdom and compassion she instilled in me, and how her legacy will carry on in me until we meet again.” —Elise
Moms, you are making history right in your home! Keep your eyes on Jesus this Mother’s Day! Thank Him even on the hard days. It is not an easy job, but what a privilege to be called “Mom!”
Our goal at Mom and Loving It Ministries and in our own personal lives is to “love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength by making the most of every opportunity as we walk along the way with our families. . . .” That’s how we want to make history.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Laurie and Sharon
